MTD mandatory April 2026 — self-employed earning over £50,000 must file digitally. The threshold drops to £30,000 in 2027.
The Problem

Self Assessment is changing. Are you ready?

HMRC is replacing annual tax returns with quarterly digital filing. Here's what's keeping sole traders up at night.

📆
4 returns a year, not 1

Instead of one annual Self Assessment, you'll need to submit quarterly updates to HMRC — plus a year-end Final Declaration. That's 5 submissions per year.

🤯
Complex rules, unclear guidance

Which income counts? What expenses are allowable? How do Class 2 and Class 4 NIC work? HMRC's guidance is dense and confusing.

💷
Accounting software is expensive

Most general accounting tools charge £20-40/month and include features you don't need. MTD compliance shouldn't cost more than your phone bill.

The Solution

Built specifically for sole traders

Not a general accounting tool with MTD bolted on. Purpose-built for quarterly HMRC filing.

📊
Quarterly filing dashboard

See Q1–Q4 at a glance with status badges, next deadline countdown, and one-click File buttons. Enter income and expenses, hit submit, done.

🧮
Tax calculations

After each submission, see your estimated income tax, Class 2 & 4 NIC, student loan repayments, and dividend tax. Plan ahead — no year-end surprises.

💼
Multiple income sources

Freelancing plus rental income? Self-employment plus a side business? Track each source separately with its own quarterly schedule.

📋
Expenses & allowances

Business expenses, capital allowances, trading allowance, loss relief — claim everything you're entitled to. All in one clear page.

Year-end finalisation

Submit your Final Declaration to HMRC with a checklist ensuring nothing is missed. Replaces Self Assessment for your MTD income sources.

What our customers say

★★★★★

As a freelance graphic designer, tax stuff terrifies me. This made quarterly filing actually straightforward. 20 minutes and done.

★★★★★

I run a plumbing business and have 2 rental properties. Both tracked in one place, filed separately. The tax calculations help me set money aside each quarter.

★★★★★

Switched from a £35/month accounting tool that was overkill. This does exactly what I need for MTD at a fraction of the price.

FAQ

Common questions

Does MTD apply to me as a sole trader?
If your gross self-employment income (plus any rental income) exceeds £50,000, MTD applies from April 2026. The threshold drops to £30,000 from April 2027, and £20,000 from April 2028.
What's the difference between MTD and Self Assessment?
MTD requires quarterly digital submissions plus a Final Declaration, replacing your annual Self Assessment return for MTD income sources. You may still need SA for non-MTD income.
Can I track business expenses?
Yes. Enter allowable business expenses each quarter alongside your income. The platform handles cumulative totals and calculates your taxable profit.
What if I have both self-employment and rental income?
Perfect — both are MTD income sources. Track each separately with its own quarterly schedule, all within one account.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. 14-day free trial with full access to every feature including the HMRC sandbox. No credit card required.
How long does a quarterly filing take?
Most sole traders complete a quarterly submission in 10-20 minutes. Enter income, enter expenses, review, and click File.
